[ they both like rushing into shit they know they shouldn't, and as much as david says that about frank, the truth is that he'd always drop everything for frank if he needed help. even if it's something too dangerous, something that would require more than a few lines of code to save them both.
so he meets her, without even questioning that this could be a trap. there's no alternative and he figures they both can't exactly accomplish this alone and jessica needs the help. he has his laptop tucked under his arm when he gets there, glancing at his device to make sure he's in the right place. ]
[ Jess is inarguably certain this is a trap, the only cause for doubt in her mind being the fact that she has nothing left to lose. Then again, she's consistently wrong about that, so there is no choice but to follow through on her appearance. If this guy's being controlled too, at least he's another full grown adult. God damn it, Frank, she told you to stay away from the kids. She couldn't have told you harder!
Despite having to watch her steps, she can still get to him by the time he's made it halfway to his destination. She tails from as far back as her 20/20 street-level super-vision will allow, and when he arrives, waits another five minutes. There's no reason to leave him out in the open, except to postpone the surrender he came to negotiate. Jess approaches from the same direction whence he came, taking to her device. She's already worked out that he doesn't have superpowers, or else Frank would have invited him up to guard Kevin's even stringbeanier body. ]
What's that for? [ She indicates to his laptop with the hand holding her device. ]
[ he doesn't have superpowers, just another normal squishy human who fucks around with computers on the side -- pretty unremarkable as far as most people are concerned. he's nervous when he gets there first, glancing around warily until he spots jessica's approach. he follows her hand and looks down at his laptop, makes a jerky shrug. ]
Tracking.
[ he can still monitor frank's movements with it if he has to, and he's never been more thankful for the fact that frank had given it to him the first day he got here. it makes him feel less like he's totally useless, even though he's certain majority of the people here could break him in half. ]
[ a handwoven basket will be left for jess when she isn't home, on the stairs leading up to her porch. frank wouldn't dare to go farther than that without permission. immediately visible are two antlers that protrude out of the vines and stand taller than the handle. inside are a few items: a short hunting knife, a canvas bag of ground coffee, a bottle of whiskey. and placed around the items are dead flowerheads and preserved rabbit's feet. if she digs to the bottom there is a tiny card, or really just another piece of canvas. and on it is a crudely painted hot dog. ]
[ Jess interprets it as a threat at first, though it couldn't be less clear if it had come wrapped in a garbage bag. The whiskey is sealed, untampered with, and none of the animal remains have blood on them. She thinks the feet are rabbit's, a totem for luck, except she's one of those dads on the "not for the rabbit" side of the argument. Also she's from New York, it could be a marmot paw or groundhog leg for all she knows. Getting to the bottom of it takes literally that. Hard to remember a time she felt less relieved closing a case. ]
WHAT THE HELL And how did you find my house? And what the hell!!!!
PB... that guy with the >:| face who is always helping everyone out if that makes sense to you? Told me about how you protected everyone from the Purple Man and rescued him. I just wanted to say thank you for standing up to him and saving my friend. I heard the stories back home so I know how big a deal it is to face him. So yeah. Thanks.
